Bhagchand is a Rajasthani artisan, whose family unit has adapted the craft to contemporary products like hand painted puppets, mirror frames, wall hangings. As a craftsman under the Shilpihaat NGO, he handcrafts traditional wall hangings, torans created out of embellishments, gota pati & scrap bandhani & cotton-silk fabric.

It is believed that somewhere 600 years ago, tribal Rajasthani Bhat community started the use of wall hangings & marionette art and it is in their love for tradition that art of wall hangings & torans, that survived the test of time. Tradition of such handicrafts is based on folk tales and stories. Scholars believe that these traditional craft forms convey the lifestyle of ancient Rajasthani tribal people.

Even today, there are some religious festivals like Janmashtami, which include rituals involving handmade dolls and wall hangings.

These traditional wall hangings are eco-friendly and are made out of cotton cloth, bandhani fabric scraps & stuffing. They are embellished with beads & gota, extending a rich traditional look.
